Welcome to Gadsden, Alabama.

Gadsden is a city located in northeastern Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 38,978. The city is the seat of Etowah County. It was at one time the state's 2nd most important industrial center, trailing only Mobile. The two cities were important shipping centers: Gadsden for riverboats and Mobile for international trade. Up until the 1980s, Gadsden was almost totally dependent on heavy industy, including Goodyear Tire, and Republic Steel. After virtually crumbling in the 1970s and 1980s, Gadsden decided its best course of action was to stop being dependent on industry, and shedding its "company town" image.
In the 1990s, Gadsden began to prosper, having changed its focus in industrial recruitment. Instead of going after the heavy industries, the city began to try and lure the more high tech companies, and automotive suppliers. Today, Gadsden is a booming city with a metro population of 104,000 people, and is one of Alabama's fastest growing cities.

Legend has it that the breathtaking beauty of the 100’ waterfall in this Alabama park does not compare to the beauty of the Indian girl for which it is named, Noccalula. According to the story, Noccalula flung herself over the rushing waters of the falls rather than betray her true love and marry a man of her father’s choosing. Grief-stricken, her father gave the natural wonder his daughter’s name and it is now known as Noccalula Falls.
In addition to the beauty of the falls, this beautiful park boasts many historic sites including a gorge trail depicting caves and Indian carvings, an old aboriginal fort, an abandoned dam, and Civil War carvings. A huge botanical garden surrounds the entire park with thousands of azaleas. Visitors are welcome to explore the park and picnic and camping facilities are available. Noccalula Falls is located on State Highway 211, 1500 Noccalula Road, Gadsden, Alabama.

The Etowah Experience
The picturesque chapters of Etowah’s early history are scenes of the nation’s progress, and symbols of the nation’s pain, her deeds of great honor and acts of great shame; with sights of growth and sounds of change; of dying Cherokees on the Trail of Tears, of rebel yells and funeral marches, of railroad whistles and street car bells, and of the churning waters of the paddle wheelers that brought commerce and excitement to the banks of the Coosa. Today, Etowah is a thriving county of a hundred thousand hospitable people all working together to keep the “Etowah Experience” a way of life for ourselves and and our visitors.
